April 2019

April 20-23  Shinmeizan welcomes Ms Fanny Cheyrou, chief editor of the french magazine PANORAMA, with Mr Nicolas Datiche, professional photographer stationed in Tokyo. The purpose of their coming is to prepare a report for PANORAMA on Shinmeizan and its activity in the field of interreligious dialogue.

Together we paid a visit to the Seimeizan-Schweitzer Temple of Tamana, with which Shinmeizan has a  very special bond of friendship and dialogue.

On April 27 a special event took place at the Seimeizan-Scweitzer Temple in Taman: the observance of the 50th anniversary of the handing over by Mr. Mukai Tadashi to Ven. Furukawa Tairyu of a lock of hair of the famous Nobel Price winner Albert Schweitzer.  This entrusting of the relic was intended at that moment as support and encouragement to Ven. Furukawa in his campaign against the death penalty and his efforts to obtain the retrial of two prisoners unjustly condemned to death, whom Ven. Furukawa had met in his service as prison-chaplain in Fukuoka.  As usual on such occasions, Shinmeizan attended the event.
