Shinmeizan Journal - July 2016

4 July – Sr Maria, Fr Franco and Fr Rocco attended the meeting of the Christian-Buddhist Exchange Group in Fukuoka. The topic chosen for the discussion was religious life in the Christian tradition, in response to a previous request from the Group. After an introduction by Fr Franco, the film Into Great Silence was shown, and a very rich exchange of impressions and comments followed. Mr Hal Edmonson, who is staying at Shinmeizan for a two-month internship, also attended the meeting as a guest.

6 July – Fr Franco, Fr Rocco and Mr Hal Edmonson visited the Rengein Tanjoji Buddhist Temple of Tamana, as well as its branch temple, located on Mount Shodai. They also visited guji Saiki of the Motoigi Shinto Shrine, who looks after the Shinto shrine of Heboura as well.

12 July – The head of the Hikino Shinto Shrine of Tamana, guji Watanabe, paid a visit to Shinmeizan. 

15 July – Fr Franco, Fr Rocco and Mr Hal Edmonson visited the Kumamoto headquarters of the Tenrikyo Religion and of the Risshokosekai Buddhist Association.

18-19 July – Ms Steffens Shokei, head of the Daiseion Temple of Wipperfuerth, Germany, visited Shinmeizan. Her temple is a branch of the Myokenkaku Temple of Osaka, which belongs to the Nichiren current of Buddhism.

24-27 July – Shinmeizan hosted a course on Religion and Religions for medical students of the Kitakyushu University.
